But skilled brush makers don't use just any hair. In a rabbit hair brush, for instance, the fur in Spring and Summer is too soft, with new growth. In the Winter it is in poor condition and molting. So Autumn, when the rabbit is well fed, is ideal and hairs are pulled from the middle of the back and dipped in lime to dissolve the oils.      [pg.12]
